Last Week at BES

My last week at Browning Elementary was a blur!  We worked on a lesson based around the book A Seed is Sleepy by Dianna Hutts Aston.  A BIG thank you to my buddy, Lizzy Douglas, for introducing me to this beautiful book.  The students learned about parts of a plant and drew their own diagrams.  On Thursday, we planted marigolds and the students are eager to see their seeds sprout.  Ms. Grant will continue on throughout the year adding math lessons on graphing the plant growth and eventually the students will take their plants home.

Our week also had a Dr. Seuss theme.  Dr. Seuss birthday is Saturday, March 2 and we integrated Dr. Seuss read-alouds and activities into our lessons leading up to a celebration of his birthday on Friday, also my last day.  My last gift to the students was a Cat in the Hat themed SMART Board lesson for Language for Writing.  The students enjoyed the creative writing portion, especially the prompt:  Write a sentence that asks a question about Thing 1 and Thing 2.  Some questions were:  Are Thing 1 and Thing 2 twins?  Why do Thing 1 and Thing 2 have blue hair?  Are Thing 1 and Thing 2 wearing pajamas?

The best part of all:  Ms. Grant made these adorable cupcakes!
